Alex Thomson: Boat refit and training underway

With a new boat launch later this year the team at Alex Thomson Racing are hard at work at Green Marine in Southampton where the boat is undergoing a refit, ready for an offshore racing and training schedule this summer, closely followed by the Barcelona World Race at the end of the year.

The team at Alex Thomson had downsized following the Vendee Globe last year, but is now building again in preparation for the Vendee Globe in 2012. Anthony Spillerbeen (Spillers) has joined as the Team Manager after 4 years at the Ericsson Racing Team, and will be responsable for all onshore technical and boat planning. He will also be joined in February by Rachel Howe, from Diverse Yachts who will looking after all boat systems and data analysis.

And while the new team are busy focussing on the boat Alex has turned his attention to his physical training programme, and has moved camp for a month to the warmer climes of the Kenyan coast. Here he is taking advantage of the better climate and geography to push his training programme further, with a daily routine of open swimming, beach running and outdoor gym sessions.

So the team is hotting up and firmly focused on the new year ahead. Watch this space!
