Catching Up

Finally I am having a much needed week off. No sailing, no boat work, just relaxing watching Wimbledon and catching up on stuff at home.

The Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta was a really tough week for me and did not go how I had hoped. I was really tired going in to the regatta and I think it showed in my sailing. It feels like I have been non stop for the last 3 months!

The IFDS Worlds are just round the corner in Weymouth and Portland so I need to be back on form and put in a good performance.

Round the Island Race 2011 Team Volvo 1

This weekend we had  the J.P Morgan Asset Management Round the Island race which is it is a big corporate event for Volvo. It’s my favourite day with Volvo and their VIP guests. This year I sailed on Team Volvo 1, a J109 and had the pleasure of Selwyn Cooper (National Coporate Operations Manager, Volvo car U.K) on board along with his guests.

I know Selwyn loves the race and we had a great day of sailing and racing around the Isle of Wight. It was full on and very choppy! But we completed the race without losing anyone overboard and finished 286th overall which was great! Out of 1303 boats that finished the race it's not bad going!

Denise Van Outen and Chris Parker joined Saskia and Paul on Team Volvo 2 to learn how to sail during the race. I headed out with Denise and some of the Volvo Youth squad pre race on the Friday afternoon so  she must have picked up some tips as Team Volvo 2 was the first Volvo boat home!

It was a very wet and exciting trip around the Island but great fun!
