"It was an encouraging start to the day here at the Weymouth and Portland Academy, we started well and managed to get to the fist mark on the course around the top ten, and from there we were able to push our way through to finish third. We were really pleased with our speed and our decision making on that opening race so that was a great boost and gave us plenty of confidence.
The second start was pretty chaotic with false starts and recalls, so in the end we had to make the best of it. The fleet was all bunched up together and we all went round the first mark all the same time and unfortunately we were on the outside of the pack.
So we seem to be running a theme of one good race, one bad which is of course a little frustrating. Myself and Sarah are counting every result we get so we need to get our heads down and make the top ten. We’ll still race sensibly and hopefully do enough to ensure we make our way into the top ten over these next two full days of racing. Four proper races and a medal race to go so we still have plenty of time to make this regatta as successful as we can.
It’s been a great week so far here at the Academy, the place is full of top quality athletes and it really brings a buzz to the place having so many Olympic and World Champions in one spot. We always want to do better on the water, but I have really enjoyed the event so far as there’s such a competitive atmosphere around. We will keep on pushing and hopefully be ready for the finals on Saturday.”
